We are feeling the effects of the climate crisis now. If we don’t get off of fossil fuels quickly and justly, the climate crisis is only going to get worse. For many years, the coal industry has been profiting off of the destruction of the planet and it is time we stop letting them get away with it.
On Saturday, August 17th 2019, our coalition joined forces to take action to close the coal fired power plant in Bow. August 20th 2019, a group of people delivered coal to the state house to lay the responsibility of closing the coal plant on the steps of our government. The plant is polluting the water in the Merrimack river, and making it impossible to reach net zero emissions in this country by 2030. This coal plant is only running because they are receiving tens of millions of dollars in subsidies given to the fossil fuel industry. The plant is going to go offline eventually, but we cannot sit around and wait for that to happen.
We need to shut down the plant in Bow once and for all, to ensure a safe future for us all. We can meet our energy needs with renewable energy sources. We need a just transition for workers and a future free of coal. Check out the press release from No Coal, No Gas for more information.
It’s time to take action. Will you join us?
